Configuring Bria 4 softphone for use with Epygi QX PBX

 

This document describes the configuration of the Bria 4 softphone as an Epygi QX IP PBX local or remote extension, enabling inbound and outbound calls. The QX telephony features will also be available for Bria 4 users as well.

Before continuing, please ensure that you are using the latest version of Bria 4 on your workstation. Visit www.counterpath.com for details.

 

System Requirements

  • Microsoft Windows running on your PC
  • Sound card, video card, microphone, speakers and webcam
  • Bria 4 version 4.1.1.23 or higher
  • QX connected to the network with the network settings configured
  • FW version 6.1.10 or higher running on the QX

 

Configuring Bria 4 as a QX Local Extension

 

Configuring the QX

Navigate to Interfaces > IP Lines

Select an extension with an inactive IP Line attached and configure it with the following parameters:

– Select the IP Phone option

– Select Other from the Phone Model drop down list

– Specify the Username/Password fields

(remember that the same Username/Password combination must be used on the Bria 4 also)

To enable the option of being able to make and receive video calls on the Bria 4, enable the Video codes on the extension as follows:

Navigate to Extensions > Extensions Management page

Select the Bria 4 extension to edit and select Go To Codec Settings

Enable the Video Codecs. The same video codes must be enabled on the Bria 4 also.

Configuring the Bria 4

Run the Bria 4 softphone

Navigate to Softphone > Account Settings from the Bria 4 menu

Select Add and then select SIP Account to open the SIP Account window

Complete the fields with the following:

– Insert the Account Name

– Leave the Allow This Account For Call option checked

– Leave the Allow This Account For IM/Presence option checked

Complete the fields within the User Details section with the following:

– Insert the User ID (the QX specified Username) and Password (the QX specified Password)

– Insert the QX’s IP address and SIP port in the Domain Field

– Insert the Display Name (this is an optional aesthetic)

– Insert the Authorisation Name (the same value as the User ID field)

Leave the Register With Domain And Receive Calls option checked and select Domain under Send Outbound Via

Select OK to save the changes

Navigate to Status > System Status > IP Line Registration on the QX to check that the Bria 4 is registered.

Once all of the above has been configured and registration verified, you will be able to make and receive audio/video calls on the QX, and use all of the QX telephony features and codes.

To enable secure communication between Bria 4 and the QX, configure the following:

– Navigate to Telephony > SIP > TLS Certificates

– Generate and download the CA Root Certificate

– Store the above certificate in your Trusted Root Certificate Authorities folder in Windows

– Insert the IP address and TLS port in the Domain field of the Bria 4 menu

– Change your signalling transport to TLS by navigating to SIP Account > Transport

– Enable the Make And Accept Only Encrypted Calls option

 

Configuring Bria 4 as a QX Remote Extension

Configuring the QX

Navigate to Extensions > Extensions Management. Select an extension to edit and select the Remote Settings link.

Configure the Remote Extension Settings with the following:

– Enable the Remote Extension settings

– Specify the Username/Password (the same to be used on the Bria 4)

– Enable the Fallback To Local Extension When Not Registered option

Configuring the Bria 4

Run the Bria 4 softphone and navigate to Softphone > Account Settings. Select Add and then choose SIP Account to open an additional window. Configure the fields with the following:

– Insert the Account Name

– Leave the Allow This Account For Call option checked

– Leave the Allow This Account For IM/Presence option checked

– Insert the User ID (the same as the Username on the QX) and the Password (Password on the QX)

– Insert the QX’s WAN IP address and SIP port in the Domain field

– Insert the Display Name (an optional aesthetic)

– Insert the Authorisation Name (the same as the User ID field)

– Leave the Register With Domain And Receive Calls option checked

– Select the Domain option

Select OK to submit and save the changes. Navigate to Status > System Status > IP Line Registration on the QX to check the registration status of the Bria 4 you just configured.

Once all of the above has been configured and verified, you will be able to make and receive audio/video calls on the QX, and use all of the QX telephony features and codes.
